About Soy Wax

Our beautiful soy wax candles are coupled up with a primed cotton wick to make for the best possible

burning experience.

Natural candles such as soy candles, smell better, last longer and come from renewable sources. Soy wax burns slower and cleaner all the way to the bottom of the jar. They burn cleanly with 95% less soot than paraffin candles and also cooler at a temperature of only 54 C where paraffin wax burns at a dangerous temperature of 63 C.

Soy wax candles are the healthy alternative to paraffin oil candles. The carbon in soya oil is derived from a plant that naturally created this oil. When this clean oil is burnt, there is a comparatively small impact on the environment. Pure soy wax is completely natural and renewable and is therefore better for the environment and health.

Unlike natural candles, most commercial candles are made from paraffin. Paraffin is derived from crude oil, a non-renewable energy source and a waste product of petroleum refineries. When paraffin candles are burnt they emit toxic black soot, similar to burning diesel fuel. Research shows that burning paraffin wax emits human carcinogens into the air you breathe such as toluene, benzene, methyl ethyl ketone and naphthalene.

It is a good idea to keep the candle wicks trimmed short in order to get the most burning hours out your soy candles. If they are cut too long, it produces a larger flame which burns the wax quicker, shortening your burning time. You should always keep the wick short every time you re-light the candle using a wick trimmer to a length of about 3-5mm long.

If you are wondering why your candle has not burnt completely and still have wax on the sides, this is called "Tunneling" and is a result of not allowing your candle to burn completely to the edge, or when it has been placed in a drafty area. You may need to burn your candle for 2-4 hrs before extinguishing to get a full "melt pool". Always allow your candle to melt to the edge of the container, with every burn.

Another benefit to natural candles is they last up to twice as long as paraffin based candles, therefore they are much better value for money.

Another advantage of having soy wax candles is, unlike paraffin wax, soy wax is water soluble. That means spills and wax drips can be easily cleaned up. It also means that the glass jars that the candles are set in can be reused and recycled after a quick wash in soapy water.

Soy Wax Candles can be made in a various range of shapes and sizes. This includes many different kinds of Glassware also Tins, Tea Lights as well as Melts.

The only style we cannot make Soy Wax Candles in is the Pillar style. This is because 100% Natural Soy Wax has a low melting point and not a solid texture. Other ingredients, such as paraffin or stearic acid, need to be added to produce solid wax for votive/pillar candles. Many soy candle shops sell their pillar candle wax as "blended wax" and not as "soy wax" and therefore are not totally natural and non-toxic.
